So we all know that I am pretty old – i turned sixty-four last Saturday.
In the early 1960’s, I loved watching The Flintstones cartoon show on TV. Whenever the main character, Fred Flintstone, got off work or was excited, he yelled Yabba-dabba-doo! You can see a short video clip here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpGx4foRdPw
I don’t know if Bella was yelling when she was photographed dabbing at SOS last month, but after a great LOG #92 weekend followed immediately by our fifth summer at SOS, we all should be saying Yabba-dabba-doo! both because we have successfully completed another LOG season and because we are excited about what God has done and is doing in our community.
Here’s what we can be excited about …
Next week is our 20-Year LOG Reunion – 11am – 1:30pm on Saturday, July 22 at Battell Park in Mishawaka. This event is aimed at alums that are out of college but we need some younger alums and senior highs to help us provide an hour or so of childcare for alumni families who are bringing children. Contact Jake Parks or Terry if you can help.
The Next Step: L•4•G #20 is July 28-30 at the Firehouse campus of Clay Church. L•4•G is a weekend for those who wish to take the next steps in their love for God and their journey of faith. L•4•G means both Love•4•God and Lead•4•God as we focus one day on loving God through spiritual disciplines and one day on leading for God in our communities and world.
Saturday’s focus will be “Growing a Personal Relationship with God” and will be led by “McKevor”, Trevor and McKenna (Rice) Killion, who were both adult leaders for LOG #91. They will lead us in some teaching time and some vertical time to help us grow in our love for God.
Sunday’s focus will be on servant leadership and will be led by Katie Mulligan, a long-time friend of Terry’s from California, who started the LOG program in Trenton, New Jersey. She will focus on how to discern God’s call on our life and then follow that call into leadership in our home, community and world.
L•4•G is open to current LOGgers and LOG alums. The cost to participate is $50.00. Registration is now open at http://www.michianayouth.org/events.
Save this date: Sunday, August 13
First: LOG is invited to Evangel Heights United Methodist Church in the morning when all the youth and adults from Bashor Home will attend worship at the church. Terry will lead worship that morning and then LOGgers are welcome to share lunch with the folks from Bashor.
Then: Don’t miss our annual Capture the Flag game up at Seth Proctor’s parents’ home in Niles, MI. We play in a huge field and then make S’mores around a campfire.
Both events are open to current LOGgers and alumni.
You can see some of the photos from LOG #92 and SOS 2017 on our Photo Page.
