Reminders of Him
Often times we go through our lives and we barely stop to think about how much God was in our day. Maybe we made it to work in record time because we hit all the green lights. Maybe someone was nice enough to pay for your coffee, or your best friend brought that favorite coffee of yours to school. Sometimes God places events and people into our lives at special times and do we ever stop to notice?
Seeing God in my everyday life is something I am trying to do more of. It is not always easy, especially when things may not be going the way you want. One thing that helps me keep God in the forefront of my mind is talking to Him throughout the day. So many times we think of prayer as a thing to do before a meal or before we go to bed, but I have found that talking to Him throughout the day makes for a better day. When someone shares a prayer request I can take the time to pray right then.
This may sound a little weird, but I believe that God gives us little reminders of Him throughout the day. These reminders are different for each person. One thing that reminds me of God is the sun. Whenever it is a sunny day out, no matter how cold, I am thankful for God because a sunny day makes for a better day. Another thing that reminds me of God is when friends ask me to do things with them. I know that sounds simple, but I love getting that little text that reads “are you free for lunch?” They could choose anyone in the world to eat lunch with, but they chose me. God can remind us of Himself in many ways throughout the day, but sometimes it is easier to not look. This is a challenge for not only you guys, but also for me. We are a busy people, and we do not take time to stop and thank God for our day. Even if it is a crappy day God tells in 1st Thessalonians 5: 16-18 “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” Being joyful in ALL circumstances is hard, but with God working for us then what do we have to fear?
As I was writing this I was listening to the L.O.G. song “Pushing Back the Dark.” It is a reminder for us that “whatever you do, just don’t look back *woah woah* somebody needs the light you have *woah woah* whatever you do, just don’t lose heart. Keep on pushing back the dark, keep on pushing back the dark.” Do not lose heart fellow Loggers because the light you shine somebody needs and somebody can use. God is in our daily lives if we let him. Think of yourself as a plant being watered by the grace of God. As you grow with Him and see Him in your life, share that with someone else that they may experience the power of God. We all need Him, but do we ever stop and look for Him.
I challenge you to find something this week that can remind you of God and his unconditional love. When you see that object, person, or hear that song remember God loves you and is in your daily life. As Veggie Tales tells us “God made you special and He loves you very much.” He loves us more than we can imagine so let us start to see Him more.
I pray that this next season of L.O.G. brings strong friendships and the powerful love of God.
